Superhero Senseathon - we need your help!

Calling all Superheroes!!

This May, Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense classes across New Zealand will be running special Superhero Senseathon classes, raising funds to support the vital work of our New Zealand partner charity, The Little Miracles Trust.

Every year approximately 10% of all babies are born premature in New Zealand. That’s one premature baby born every 90 minutes. In all, over 5,000 newborn babies are born premature and there are also many full-term babies whose condition or illness requires admission to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).

These are the babies, and their families, The Little Miracles Trust supports.

What is the Superhero Senseathon?

In May 2024 babies, toddlers and their carers will be donning their Superhero capes and raising funds and awareness for babies born early – it’s Superhero babies and toddlers supporting other Superhero babies and toddlers.

The Sun has been stolen by the evil Saby Bensory and a team of intrepid Superhero babies and toddlers are needed to save the day!

The Superhero themed ‘Senseathon’ will be a wonderful and fun event and all participants (babies, toddlers and even parents!) are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Superhero.

Funds raised by the event will go directly to the Little Miracles Trust to help support their three main objectives – supporting parents in whatever way they can during their neonatal journey, assisting NICUs in practical ways such as contributing towards the cost of equipment, funding staff education and professional development, and aiding neonatal-related medical research.

With over 10,000 families participating in the Superhero Senseathon across Australia and New Zealand we are hoping to beat our fundraising totals from 2019 and 2022 and raise even more to support families across New Zealand.

Families can find out more about how they can get involved in their closest Superhero Senseathon event by contacting their local Baby Sensory or Toddler Sense class leader.

Who are The Little Miracles Trust?

The Little Miracles Trust is New Zealand’s leading organisation supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. During the excitement of a pregnancy no-one expects or prepares for the challenges associated with their baby needing to spend days, weeks, or even months in the NICU or SCBU. That is why the work The Little Miracles Trust do supporting families in these situations is so valuable.

The Little Miracles Trust work to help reduce the families’ stress and make such a difficult start to life a little bit easier as families make the journey through neonatal intensive care, the transition home, and onwards.

“Making a difficult start in life that little bit easier.”
