This March, Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense classes across New Zealand ran special Superhero Senseathon classes, raising funds to support the vital work of our New Zealand partner charity, The Neonatal Trust.
A massive $9,130 was raised by Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense families and class leaders in New Zealand and more than 8,000 families took part in Superhero Senseathon events across Australia and New Zealand.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all our Class Leaders and Franchisees, Superhero families, toddlers and babies and their supporters.
Every year approximately 10% of all babies are born premature in New Zealand. That’s one premature baby born every 90 minutes.
In all, over 5,000 newborn babies are born premature and there are also many full-term babies whose condition or illness requires admission to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
These are the babies, and their families, The Neonatal Trust supports.
Who are The Neonatal Trust?
The Neonatal Trust is New Zealand’s leading organisation supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. During the excitement of a pregnancy no-one expects or prepares for the challenges associated with their baby needing to spend days, weeks, or even months in the NICU or SCBU. That is why the work The Neonatal Trust do supporting families in these situations is so valuable.
The Neonatal Trust work to help reduce the families’ stress and make such a difficult start to life a little bit easier as families make the journey through neonatal intensive care, the transition home, and onwards.
“Making a difficult start in life that little bit easier.”

Where will the money go?
All proceeds from the Senseathon event will go directly to The Neonatal Trust to help towards their three main objectives –
- supporting parents in whatever way they can during their neonatal journey,
- assisting NICUs in practical ways such as contributing towards the cost of equipment and funding staff education and professional development,
- and aiding neonatal-related medical research.
In particular, funds will spent on increasing The Neonatal Trust's whānau support in innovative ways such as webinars, live streams and podcasts.
